Home » Site News » New Repeatable Exp System
I'd like to start putting together a comprehensive system to replace or enhance the REQ system of item turnins that the GM's have already instituted. I'd like to compile a list of quests complete with maps and requirements to complete the quest. My aim is to aid the GM's in creating a repeatable exp quest system that does several things:
1) Encourages party play at all levels
2) Helps teach people to play their class
3) Takes the bite off of the leveling slump
4) Add to the plot of iRO
5) Provides more fun for both new and old players
Constructive comments and criticism are welcome.
I've come up with some quest types that are alternatives to the hunt item X, turn in for exp variety we have now.
1) Monster Elimination Quest
Kill X many monsters of a certain type, then return to the NPC for a reward.
Notes: the GM's already have this one down.
2) Protect the Convoy
X many NPC's or monsters will spawn and proceed to walk in and among the players. the players will need to deliver some or all of the convoy NPC's to the other side of the same map.
Notes: probably the most complex to program, but we don't have anything to like this. from what I've seen, we've already had NPC's that can spawn monsters. Also, based on the Hugel races, we have a function where one monster in a particular set hits a single pannel, they all die. Which is kind of like getting them to safety, only a different animation is required...maybe a warp animation.
3) Deliver Package
NPC X gives you a package, you take it to Y place in the world.
Notes: we already have some of these. they don't do much right now, so we need more quests or expanded rewards for the ones we do have.
4) Learn Your Skills
A class trainer takes you to a secure training area and gives you some task (killing monsters, healing sick people, sneaking into an underground bunker, etc) based on a skill you've selected (requires learning the skill).
Notes: These could be of any of the a fore mentioned categories, or something similar. The main idea is to learn your class skills and maybe get some job exp along the way.
5) Kill the Mini-Boss
A NPC on a map will summon a mini-boss, complete with mob, if a party leader talks to the NPC. The party can go kill it, then come back and each member can talk to the NPC to get exp for the quest.
Notes: Sort of like a MVP event, only repeatable and with mini-bosses. There's no real need for the mob to be limited to 1-8 monsters. A super large mob with 50 monsters may be possible, depending on the exp of the monster and the size of the party.
Now, the fun part: coming up with plots. I'll do up 5 examples.
1) Kobolds Invade Geffen Area
Map: gef_fild08, 2 west of Geffen
NPC: Harry, the Royal Mages Lieutenant has been tasked with defending Geffen city from Kobold incursion. His philosophy: The best defense is a good offense. He wants to wipe the floor with the kobolds so that they wont be a threat again.
Task: Kill 20 Kobold Archers, 20 Mace Kobold, 20 Axe Kobold, and 20 Morning Star Kobold. Killing Kobold Leader gives a bonus.
Rewards: 75,000 base exp & 65,000 job exp. Bonus adds 25,000 base, 25,000 job exp.
Cooldown: 22 Hours
2) Poring Evacuation
Map: yuno_fild10, 2 north of Al De Baran
NPC & Plot: Jay, the Rund Midgards Ambassador to the Poring Nation has received word that an enclave of porings has been attacked by their enemies, the chonchons. Rather than fight and die, they have decided to ask for asylum in rune midgards. They need your help to get to the border posts. Be wary! The chonchons have sent some elite hunter flies to harass you.
Task: Take the Porings from the northwest, to the southeast portal. They will bounce around among your team members like the BG guardians, but are not programmed to attack.
Rewards: 30,000 base exp & 20,000 job exp.
Cooldown: 22 Hours
3) Merchant Madness
Map: Alberta, pay_archer
NPC & Plot: The merchant guild, worried about potential competition from Arunefelz and Schwartzvald have decided to expand their shipping service to solidify their monopoly.
Task: Take a package from the front of the merchant guild to the Alchemist's shop in pay_archer. Bonus (1) if you don't use teleport or kafra warps. Bonus (2) if you have bonus 1 and are over base level 80.
Rewards: 20,000 base exp & 15,000 job exp. Bonus (1) is 5,000 base and 5,000 job exp. Bonus (2) is 80,000 job exp.
Cooldown: 22 Hours.
4) Heal the Sick
Map: Lighthalzen
NPC & Plot: Talk to an Aco Trainer near the Prontera Cathedral. He will tell you there is a disease spreading among the poor in Lighthalzen. As your job is acolyte class, your job is to go to his field assistant Terry. Terry has quarentined the sick in their homes. She tells you that they can no longer speak because of a contagious form of laryngitis and asks you to go to them and use the Cure skill on each of them.
Task: Use Cure, Status Recovery, and/or Spiritual Bestowment on 5 Sick people. Bonus if you are able to use stat recovery or spiritual bestowment on them.
Rewards: 3 Blue Gem, 20,000 base exp & 25,000 job exp. Bonus is 75,000 job exp.
Cooldown: 22 Hours.
5) Scourge of Veins
Map: ve_fild07
NPC & Plot: Talk to Magdalene near the north portal of ve_fild07. She will tell you that Minor snake lord has been upset by all the adventurers going to Nameless Island who have been haplessly killing his vicious sidewinders along the way. He plans to gather all the snakes in the area and destroy Veins, so that the adventurers will have no staging area to go to Nameless.
Task: Kill Minor Snake Lord and his bodyguard snakes.
Rewards: 1,000,000 exp & 1,000,000 job exp.
Cooldown: 6 days, 22 Hours
OK! I've come up with a few starter ideas. Now, I'll go release this to the Forum Community...I'll let you all have a go at designing some new, fun, and maybe funny quest ideas. Hopefully something will catch the GM's eye, and they can implement it.
